Thanks Gwen! Have you used any software like CASEPRO? Thank you for that tip about the DSM dx because I havn't encountered many questions in my study guide regarding that. The study guide focuses more on intake assessment.
In all honesty, I think all of those extra study guides (i.e CasePro or whatever it is) is a waste of time. I mean, I pretty much studied for one week. I memorized the DSM-IV and used this website as my only "real" study material and after taking and passing the exam (on the first try), I felt as if I was very well prepared for the exam. The NBCC offers a 5 simulation practice guide, which I found very helpful because they use the same wording that is on the actual exam. The simulations on counselingexam.com are just good for diagnosing. I dont think the simulations are that great. I mean they are created by people who are taking the test just like us. More importantly, I think it's a huge help if you have been in the field praciting for at least one year before sitting for the exam.

Thanks, for the reply. So what you are saying is that if you know the DSM-IV you should be ok. Did they give you odd disorders or the normal anxiety, depression,OCD and etc.?
How long have you been in the field.
I have been in the field for several years, but lately I have been doing addiction counseling.
Thanks, again.
I have used the CASEPRO and it is difficult. It seems to be okay and seems to me like it has what most individuals on here are talking about. I also sent away for the NBCC simulations (which of course costs money)... I am about to make some flash cards for diagnosing... I have been in the mental health field as a therapist for a couple of years now and found that administering intakes has also prepared me for the NCMHCE. If anyone is from NY (suffolk/nassua) and would like a study partner please let me know...
I am waiting for the results of the exam I took 4/18. I first bought CasePro and found it difficult. I then used the counselingexam.com and it is much easier and much more in tune with the actual exam. Good luck
:( the casepro was expensive and you're right it is pretty difficult... I cannot afford to purchase more study materials!!! But thank you I will recommend the counselingexam.com to my colleagues...good luck!!!
Lauren, if you can swing it, it's worth it, even if it's just the simulations. I just got my scores and I did very well on the first try. The NBCC practice exam is very similar to the actual exam.
You have to send away for the simulations from NBCC. If you go to their website nbcc.org on the left hand side scroll over the nbcc link, it will drop down. Click on the state licensure link click on the exams link then finally on the exam you are going to take. It will bring you to the studyguides (there will be a link for nbcc's studyguide)...
