I wanted to share my news...after several months of agony (studying)...I passed the exam. If there is any advise I can give anyone who have failed like I did...DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME studying but rather continue reviewing and retest AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I am certain I would have not passed using just one of the recommended sources. I believe you have to use both, this website and Rosenthal’s book and/or CDs. I guess I can understand the rationale for the test but I am not sure about the process. I have found out that the test does not make you a better counselor, what makes me a better counselor is my passion for the profession. Good Luck and don't give up!
I am taking it for the 3rd time in September. it has been very stressful each time. my score is getting better, but still 8-10 points off. my problem is application of the theories. I know the theorists but when it comes to matching the key words I freeze up. that is what I am focusing myself on now. I am hoping by taking the tests on here it will help my confidence. each time I take the test I try something different, hopefully I'll pass before I run out of money. it is a real money maker. the study guides you buy, in my opinion, are still not geared toward application of knowledge in preparing you for the questions. any suggestions in studying?
Well, I understand the feeling. I took the exam and fail by 6 points the first time. I decided to take the NCMHC because I forgot I do not like multiple choice test.
It's hard to deal with the feeling that you are a failure. It takes tenacity and staying focused on your goal. I failed my first time taking the exam by a very few points. I was stressed when I took the exam and I didn't prepare correctly. My supervisor at work suggested counselingxam.com. I joined the counseling exam.com, read the literature, took the test and reviewed the flash cards. I took the simulated test again, and again and again. It helped me with understanding the questions on the actual exam. it explained the right and wrong answers and why. I did exactly what they said when I took the exam. I brought a couple of pencils, I brought ear plugs and I was more comfortable and relaxed the second time. I ignored all those people leaving and took the total time. I really recommend that you look at that site. I started studying months in advance, a little bit each day. That decreased the stress that comes with trying to cram information.
I will sign up again als it gets closer to the time I need to take my LCPC exam. It was very, very beneficial to me. Try it. You can sign up for a day, week month or year. You can take it again in April. Start your preparation now.
Good luck
